I know the general opinion is that Steve Cook will leave at the end of season but today walking back to the car I heard his name mentioned as many times as Madsen and Kone in a massively positive light. Have to say the whole back 4 looked stronger without the madness at RB.

Van Dyke is the same age as Steve Cook and still near the top of his game, Cook’s reading of the game is brilliant and we have another captain on the pitch.

Wonder whether the extension also had a number of games played rollover. I know I am in the minority but I would keep him, I’ve also been to enough away games to know his standards don’t drop

Totally agree; that man is a rock.

Not sure you are in the minority at all. No real injury issues and absolutely still a strong player at this level. Salary may be the only issue but he's been great and I only wish we had got hold of him the first time we went after him.

I remember a few posters stating his legs had gone at the beginning of the season.
Looks like he went and found 'em again.

Pleased to see him right at the heart of things and showing his class.

Has been a great addition to our squad over the past few seasons.

Certainly playing well for a man whose legs have gone.

Experience, availability, know-how, leadership. He has a lot of things you simply can't buy and will always struggle to replace. See also, Sam Field

He’s been terrific for us, the outstanding success of Ainsworth’s time here. (I realise he doesn’t play for nothing!)

Fascinating to observe the one or two here who've done a volte face in recent months on Cook's capabilities. He'll be 35 in April. Richard Dunne did a sterling job for the club at a similar age, as did, in another era, Frank McLintock.

I'd like to know how Steve might be feeling. If he genuinely believes he can carry on for another year after this one, the coaching staff agree, and the contract is sensible, I'd give it him right now, even if he's a squad player.

Poll: A little over halfway through the season, where do you see us finishing?

I think he’s been superb. And has dealt with no longer being the captain by being a great leader on the pitch.

Back to his best. We lose him at our own peril. I had the same foot injury he had and it took ages, but he seems to have shaken it off. 35 in a few months and still very comfortable at this level. 91 games for the club. If he keeps playing like this then def another season in him.

Never knowingly right.

Common sense defending. Always a reassuring presence for me.

Woke up to this thread this morning and so pleased it as been posted. Totally agree with SE... the club has an history of these "mature gems" at CB.... and Cooky is certainly one of them

He must be 3rd behind Dunne and Madsen for appearances and minutes this season and I have yet to see him have a bad game.

With the captaincy taken from him this season, it would seem that he wasn't really in the plans, but how he as handled that, and still given the level of performance, professionalism and dedication is amazing ....

IMO he is arguably the most influential player in the team
