So good to see Alfie get his 1st goal at LR. He is developing nicely and hopefully that goal will push him on. Always liked him since 1st seeing him against Spurs in a friendly a couple of years back. Like the way that Julien has been patient with him and loaning out last season has helped. Strong and with pace just what we need and a trier as well.

Sorry, Myke. 100% right.

As soon as you posted, I went reading through Francis' 75-76 book again to see the overlap and it was minimal. Venables last game for Rangers was 14 days before Jago left, and only played 14 games for Palace theerafter.

So the arc might be (at least in terms of attack)- Jago-Venables-Graham-Bould.
Then in terms of defence might be (high line, egg, rope etc) Venables-Graham-Bould
I think Graham might also worked under Jago at Millwall?
Must look that up.

One way or the other, what Francis' books demonstrate is that Rangers had a huge impact on tactics throughout the 70's and 80's.

I looked up the potential Venables Sexton link and it seems they did work together at … ahem Chelsea in the mid-sixties

Ya, I saw that too, but was ignoring it!!

In all fairness, though, that would have been before Sexton started travelling abroad to watch, in particular, Dutch football.

Venables' three years at Spurs, the house of Bill Nicholson, who is tied in to Ajax through Vic Buckingham, might be far more influential on his thinking than his days at Chelsea.

"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."
Poll: Player of the Year (so far)

I think it's a great sign of a positive squad culture that we've got two players in Lloyd and Adamson who none of us would have had anywhere near our preferred teams in August and they've played their way in through commitment, dedication and form. QPR have fawned over 'names' too often since the money arrived, I absolutely love Stephan's approach that he doesn't care who you are or how old you are if you deserve a shirt you'll be getting one, even if that means leaving a more prominent squad member out.

If you add that to the context of the turnaround Madsen had last year, and the faith showed in him, it does point to a really positive culture of development and patience over multiple years. This is how you build sustainable success.
