Before my day but those I know who saw him play speak very highly of him. Very sad.

RIP

Very sad news indeed - like you Whales I never saw Peter play, but know well enough quite how important he is in the history of Colchester United - I've also had the pleasure of briefly meeting him on a couple of occasions, needless to say always when following his beloved U's.

My thoughts are with his friends and family - RIP Peter

Sad news indeed, I never saw him play but from articles and the stats it was clear that he was a true Colchester legend.

RIP

RIP Peter.
Guys I was lucky to see him a lot in the late 50's and early 60's and still remember with awe when he set off on one of his runs.
What a winger and a gentleman to boot.

Very sad news. I know the term legend is used all to often, but Peter was someone who well and truly was a U's legend. As with the rest of you, his playing days were well before my time, but I always heard fond words about him and often saw him at home games.

I note on the #colu twitter feed suggestions that a stand should be named after him. A fitting tribute in my opinion. I used to see hime in the W stand, now the W can have a new meaning.

Before my time but a Col U player that only needs one word...legend!

Thoughts are with his family and friends.

He once drew out my 50/50 ticket.....I won over £200 smackers.

.....hence my particular U's hero too, even though I never saw him play.

Saw him many times in the 50s, not only a great player but loyal too and very sporting, I think it was Peter Wright who lost a contact lense during a game and the players came out at half time to look for it.
Thanks for the memories. RIP.

My first sporting hero, hence my username. He terrorised most right-backs with his pace and control and provided devastating crosses for our forwards. And yes, Carruthers, it was the great man who lost a contact lens and had players from both sides looking for it. It was never found.

Thanks for some great memories, Peter, and RIP.
