A massive game tomorrow away to Wycombe. It could go a long way in deciding who goes up automatically with Birmingham.

It's amazing when you travel the world how many people have never heard of Wales, but say you are from Swansea and they have heard of it. The power of the Premier League. Incidentally Cardiff often draws a blank as well.

Strange then how all these people never watch the World Cup or the Euro’s.

Sports diplomacy has put Wales firmly on the world map over recent years.
Taxi driver in Chicago was Colombian but loved Gareth Bale.

Maybe if we were a normal independent nation like everyone else …..? There is that.

There are many countries in the world who only watch the Premier League particular South America and Asia.

So people in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Colombia dont watch the world cup …?

I am not sure your information is correct.

Wales haven't played any of those teams for many a year in the World Cup. I actually quoted from my experience talking to locals while travelling. Are yours based on similar or opinion.

We are not called Wales anymore; it's Cymru, which no doubt the South Americans are aware of.

Surprised the unwashed on here haven't picked you up on that.

Except everyone else isn't independent. There is that!

The Americans watch the world cup but still many haven't a clue where Wales is.

I would disagree. Every American that I have met, and I have met many, knows about Wales.
It’s not the 16th century.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

How many is many? I've been to the USA 5 times and there were only a few I met who knew Wales wasn't England and they were mostly the older people, the younger people were clueless. It used to be put down to the lack of foreign travel by most Americans, in 2024 about 48% of Americans had a passport and last year there were roughly 20 million American visits to Europe, a chunk of those will be returns and not all different people visiting once. 20 million out of 350 million, it's not many.

No matter what something, all Americans have heard of England , most of Scotland but few of Wales
Changing the name for international purposes will make it less known, although it will sate language fascists
A way to make a small country even smaller

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

Most Americans I’ve met in a sports setting know of Wales, on a wider degree I doubt many do. In Spain, in the areas that are not deemed real Spain, tourist Spain, like new Benidorm, Estero an etc and all along that coast Wales is well known through tourism.

I’ve lived here for a lot of years. If I’ve met three people in that time who were born and raised here that know of Wales I would be surprised. The only thing that resonates with them are the names Gareth Bake or Ryan Giggs, that will bring about a distant acknowledgment but they don’t know about the country. Nor really know where it is.

Gareth Bake?

Starnge thing, when I was in Moscow I talked to several locals and they all seemee to know of Wales. Maybe it was only because we were playing them in the play off!
