I don't disagree, in my industry Gartner said up to 70% of people could lose their jobs due to AI, they have now adjusted that to 17%!
In simple terms, we are only at stage 2 of AI. There is a lot to come.
Big big big topic and some may scoff at what I am saying. But what I have learnt over the years is be open minded, read, listen and absorb as much as you can.
I have a moral dilemma, am I part of the problem or the solution?
People also need to remember that AI is still in its infancy. As an analysis and administrative tool it will eventually run the planet, but i think we are still a few decades off yet.

I cant see unmanned robots building houses or fitting floating shelves for years. But ive seen these new fitted bionic arm things that clip around you , that takes all the load, I can see that being useful in some aspects of the building trade, and be around in a few years. I could do with some go go gadget arms today, stripping the tiles off this roof! :)

The politics of totalitarianism is subtle although Starmer wasn't the best at it and he was totally see through. As noted, driving and owning a car will be made totally cost prohibitive
To replace that income? Will they need to? As Gloucst notes the world is rapidly becoming a very, very, VERY different place. Maybe we'll all have a Digital ID with carbon credits on it controlling how much you go out and where? By that I mean leaving your front door.
People will offer me a corner to sit in wearing my tinfoil hat but I sort of feel there's a bigger end game. I haven't got the intelligence to articulate or guess what it is but I've listened to others with interest on it. Climate change is inevitable, its what the Earth has done for millions of years, and it could be that the new world involves barren sun dried wastelands where there are currently temperate local systems; there's not a single thing the human race can do to stop this change - it will happen no matter if we all used horses from hereon in and ate nothing but mungo beans. However in their bid to slow this down drastic measures may be coming into play coupled with a Terminator world. There also has to be an end game to this acceptance / encouragement of mass migration rather than just load up the populus to pad out pension contributions -- as there's no work!!!

However, peer reviewed research, by independent, unrelated, non-political organisations has looked at the recent warming of the global climate, taken into account all possible natural influences, and concluded that it can only be due to man-made emissions.
Carbon dioxide traps heat, Tyndall proved that in the 19th century.
We're at the point now where very few applications rely on fossil fuels, so we have an opportunity to get our carbon emissions down and reduce the likelihood of leaving our descendants with a planet on which ever more areas are uninhabitable.

You know I will always disagree with you on this - and I am here - but won't get into the entrenchment tennis on a thread about OOC!!!
If you can debunk everything I learned about geology, the various "Ages" of the planet and what my own common sense is telling me then great and I'm on board. It's unlikely as I'll always come back to those cavemen driving round in their fully leaded SUV's who left their filament lights on in their caves all night and day whilst the wife made sure the traditional boiler pumped out all sorts. They went through a Tropic and Ice Age as a result of that the poor b'stards. Fast forward to the Industrial Revolution and my days......
The fact is advances in pollution reduction are tip top these days. I can't dispute damage has been done in the past and clearly there'll be a contribution now, but even if we were all walking everywhere, wearing sack-cloth and living in caves then the climate would still change.
The eco-system we are actively killing is the sea, that is almost exclusively due to the actions of man. The oil industry a lot to answer for there but everything else we put into the seas and waterways is an absolute disgrace. So water is common ground for us..... the rest I'll leave it there.

We need an exodus tax to stop them ferreting away their wealth, followed by a tax on anyone with assets of ÂŁ20m or more. If said assets are stuck in, say, that expensive manor to run, no worries; we can pay them off and solve housing issues all at once. But what happens if the manor is historical (welcome to the National Trust)? Or, if it needs work, get the Army in to do it up as top-class housing for the Armed Forces personnel, then use the old Barracks to house asylum seekers, and use the money saved on all of that to build real houses for key workers and bring the cost of living down hard!
Or you can believe Reform that a tax cut to the rich will somehow be passed onto the working class and not some Bankers who will squirrel it away in the Cayman Islands ... yeah right!
