Ted Hendrix / RIP 14:46 - Oct 27 with 6695 viewsCharlie1

Hi everyone,

Been a long time since I posted so for those who know / remember me, I hope you are all well.

My brother and I Dad, Ted Hendrix, who was a frequent poster and known to many on here over god knows how many years, passed away yesterday in the early hours. My mum, brother and I were all with him at the end. Candidly, he did suffer for a couple of weeks and it was a difficult period for us all, but the last few days he wasn’t suffering. He was content and comfortable despite the cancer.

Dad loved his club. His hero’s all played in the 60’s and 70’s when he was a kid growing up and causing mischief in west London.

A brief story. Fathers / mothers obviously introduce siblings to their football clubs (or mental torture if you support QPR). Dad took me to Loftus Road in 86 for my first game against Liverpool in the Milk cup semi final. No idea when he inflicted it on my younger brother!

I stopped going a few years back. Fell out of love with the game and found the Redknapp era awful ie players we signed and we lost sight of who we had become. In addition, my wife and I had a family which was my priority.
When we became aware that Dad may not have long left, I took my two girls to Loftus Road for the first time, against Preston last month. In the back of my mind I thought it would be a no brainer. Few away fans, easy win etc. At half time I had two bored kids, tired and thinking what on earth is this, two down and ten men on the pitch. There is something special about Loftus Road when the lights come on, and when there is something more, deeper meaning to it all. Sure enough, the second half was magical. I did tell my girls numerous times that supporting QPR is massive highs and lows (typically lows). They loved it.

The day after, they spent time with Dad for the last time (we didn’t know that at the time but I’m sure you can read between the lines re health deteriorating). Therein a conversation about QPR over the years and generations talking shop. And we gave him a program and A kick up the R’s. Somethings are meant to be.

I’m aware many of you have asked for updates and probably contacted Dad. My brother Paul and I want to thank you all for your thoughts, best wishes and friendship over the years. This message board meant a lot to him, especially the last few years as he had a few health issues.

Thanks again for the well wishes and support. Take care all.

You R’S!

2:59 baby!

God that's so sad, even though we'd been told it was coming.

A man who's been on this site as long as this site existed. The man who named the bloody thing. Father of the house.

Ted had an amazing ability to say in five words what takes most of the rest of us 500. He'd cut straight through the crap, tell you what he thought, and he was right. Can you ever remember Ted Hendrix being wrong, on any issue really? A real bellwether for opinions on here so goodness knows what a terrific man and influence this must have been to have as a father Dave, and Paul. I'm so sorry for you both.

I loved hearing about the QPR of the past from him, and he saw (and saw through) so many of the chancers that came later. Watching him chasing Gareth Bale around the Lower Loft giving it the old 'fck off out of here'. The iconic photograph. Legend.

RIP Ted and very best to Dave, Paul and the family. This will never be the same place again without him.

So sorry for your and your family's loss Charlie. Ted was a lovely and loyal fan and character and one of his legacies is the naming of this site which was Ted's doing: "Loft For Words". RIP Ted, you'll be greatly missed.

I first met Ted and yourself decades ago when I first started coming to Loftus Road in the early 2000's. A straight talker as many have already said.

Condolences to you and your family.

RIP, Ted. True QPR Supporting Legend. You Will Be Missed.

I was looking through the advice thread for our NYC trip this week and as usual Ted had given his input. That was literally just a few weeks ago.

As I said in another thread, I met him a few times as the 'legendary Ted' at the Adelaide. I loved the blunt but not rude posts he often made. No time for fannying about, called a spade a spade.

Will be sorely missed and RIP Ted and thoughts and prayers with all your family

RIP Ted.

I never met him but felt I knew him. His love of QPR, football and his family knew no bounds.

In an era when social media has produced and given an audience to some truly awful people, he was one of the goods guys who helped keep faith that it can be a good place, at times. Down to earth and no nonsense.

He will be missed.

R.I.P Ted and sending love to the family.

3 pages and counting in a few hours will hopefully show you what a popular respected man he was on this forum and at the games on match days. Never a right time to say goodbye but it sounds like a life well lived.

RIP Ted.

Huge condolences, David (Charlie). All the best to you and your family in the coming days, weeks, and months. Heartwarming to hear your daughters were able to have some time talking to your Dad about QPR having just been. I hope some of his passion and been transferred over to them.

I hope that you and your family can take some comfort in this difficult time.

RIP Ted And condolences to his family. His posts here always brought a little smile to my face. Didn't mince his words, but as has been said he was never rude or argumentative. We'll miss you Ted, God speed.

Imagine the freedom when you are nobody and you do not want to be anybody, you are simply present, freed from all demands and illusions.
