| Burnley Reflection 22:01 - Nov 3 with 3741 views | bluenwhite10 | 2 points dropped today against a very poor effortless Burnley side. In the 1st 20mins we were in such control against a side that gave us so much space to play in. In the last couple of home games Derby and Swansea we have played lots of pretty one touch football around the box which has paid off, but tonight none of it come off. Kone, Saito, Kamara, Vale and Kone looked well off the pace tonight. Gifted an equalising goal from some poor keeping. I will keep an open mind Obikwu but that miss was poor and after tonight and Charlton away he does not look up to the standard. I have seen us lose games like this in the past, we didn’t so that is the positive to take away. Edwards again MOM Come on you R’s | | | | |
| Burnley Reflection on 08:17 - Nov 4 with 858 views | nadera78 | A reasonable opening 20 minutes, but then dropped off alarmingly. All too safe and expectant and waiting for something to happen instead of making it happen. And they all looked completely shagged out with 20 minutes to go, which is...not optimal. | | | |
| Burnley Reflection on 08:22 - Nov 4 with 835 views | dmm | It's probably been said already but for Saturday, I hope Stephan lays aside the 442 shape with Kone and Smyth up top. That it worked against Swansea doesn't necessarily mean it'll work against other teams as we've seen against Soton and Burnley. And, I still think we usually look better in a 433 than a 442. | | | |
| Burnley Reflection on 08:29 - Nov 4 with 803 views | stevec | If the Burnley keeper hadn’t been bamboozled by Varane making a forward pass, we’d have lost that. Last night was a microcosm of why every struggling team must desperately look forward to playing us. They come in looking bereft of confidence but 90 minutes later are reborn as a football team. | | | |

| Burnley Reflection on 22:34 - Nov 3 by dmm | A disappointing night but at least we didn't lose like we often can in a game like that. One thing I didn't understand was why our wide men were playing so narrow. It meant we hardly ever got behind Burnley's defence and that the midfield often became congested. |
I haven't seen it mentioned on here before David but we've been playing that way since Swansea. The midfield four have often moved into more of a diamond at times. Varane deep, Vale/Poku/Saito a little more tucked in than usual although still drifting wide on occasion and Kamara pushing up higher into '10' territory. Worked well against Swansea ( Poku's good work to set up the 1st goal came from being more 'inland'). But it has some obvious issues. The main one for me being it makes Kamara less effective. As we've seen he really doesn't like to shoot or even try the killer pass. He's not great at receiving the ball with his back to goal either. He's so much more effective a little further back, facing the goal, progressing the ball and playing it in to the creative players. I think when Chair came on he moved further back and was more involved and able to play to his strengths. Talking of Chair, how desperately do we need him if teams are sitting back and need unlocking? He looked a different level in terms of technique and that constant buzzing around desperate to be given the ball and make something happen. Looking forward to more of him. [Post edited 4 Nov 8:35]

| Burnley Reflection on 08:33 - Nov 4 with 774 views | TheChef | A frustrating evening. It's all very well playing pretty passing football if there's no end product. We had to score the first goal and I think they would have folded, but inevitably they scored with their first shot on target and took confidence from that. Same old fkn QPR. It's a dogsh1t division this season and 8th place and the play offs really shouldn't be beyond this squad of players. OK in the end we didn't lose but we have to be winning our home games at the very least. Need to beat Lincoln on Saturday but being QPR it wouldn't surprise if we failed to do that either. This club. | |

I thought Kamara was good for the first 70 minutes, apart from his complete refusal to shoot. He must have been sick of the ball in the first half, he was taking it off Burnley so easily in the first half. He tired and they passed better in the second. The frustrating thing about last night is that Burnley were so atrocious in the first half. It wasn’t that they set up to wall off their box and work hard frustrating us, they were a lethargic rabble, but we cluttered up the middle and tried to play pinball passing in small areas when there was no need, they were standing off waiting for someone else to do something. We should have been stretching them out and running at them to draw them in and create space that way. To be fair to them, they actually made an effort to run around and keep the ball in the second.
| Burnley Reflection on 09:09 - Nov 4 with 622 views | gazza1 | 1. Burnley were a very average team indeed, probably the worst to visit Loftus this season. 2. The first 30 minutes, prior to their goal, we were so dominant but failed to be clinical enough nor took the right options when in the final third of the pitch. We had gotten ourselves in good situations but failed thereafter. 3. The conceded goal started when Edwards headed the ball down to the Burnley player. (Defensive headers should be 'Height & Distance', this header was exactly the opposite) Maybe Charles should have stopped the shot at goal, maybe. 4. Basically the first half (& the 2nd) it highlighted our limitations in our forward play, it was generally pretty poor by every player who got into advanced positions, snatching at shots, not getting shots on target, not using the ball well & it goes on. The final third we were awful. 5. Much of a muchness in the 2nd half but we scored through poor keeping. The Manager needs to stop playing Smyth as CF, it worked against Swans but that doesn't mean it will always work, the Manager needs to stop starting Vale nearly every match (he is very average indeed), The Manager needs to give Obikwu a start. The Manager needs to tell the players to shoot if they are 20 yards out with space rather than try and find a tight pass. Lots to think about for the Manager & the players, we cannot keep dropping points against pretty average Teams in this Division if we hope to get into the play-offs.. And finally, Nourry needs to put his hands in his pocket & sign a striker, we are so very limited in that area. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Burnley Reflection on 09:16 - Nov 4 with 595 views | TK1 | Slightly disappointing 1-1 at home. Very very Championship. For many years we have watched QPR lose that 0-1, maybe 0-2. Got a 1-1 instead. Vale's free kick is six inches inside the post early on, we win that handsomely. We also know that that team is not QPR's best. Plenty of upgrades to come back. Not sure why everyone is being so bleak about it here. This is the life you have chosen! Unless you are Charlton catering down the league, there are no conclusions to be drawn from midweekers in November, be you Stoke squeezing a 1-2 away at Blackburn or Swansea getting pumped at Pompey. Forget it, move on, accumulate as best you can - see where everyone is at the end of Feb. QPR currently have seven fewer points than the league leaders and 16 more than the bottom team. Plenty of road to go. The only thing that is really concerning is how puffed we were after an hour. Midfield ran out of steam, as did forwards. We're gonna break Kamara at this rate, which would be a disaster. And I first noticed Smyth stretching his hamstrings and calves around 65 mins, by 75 he could barely run but we kept him on until 82nd. Very odd. Quite worrying. If he's out next game, they've done that to him. He should've gone with Saito or Vale. QPR break players. | | | |
| Burnley Reflection on 09:30 - Nov 4 with 515 views | Phildo | Hmm disappointing night - we looked like a very mid table championship team. Saito - gosh looked like he had come up from the u14s. I don't think the physical nature of the championship is a fit for him. | | | |
| Burnley Reflection on 09:35 - Nov 4 with 494 views | BlackAndGoldRanger | Had a feeling we would drop points in one home game this week, assumed it would be Saturday......Difference from recent games is, we didn't score early. Couldn't break them down. I really don't get this refusal to shoot thing, incredibly odd last night. Get ahead against Lincoln in 1st half an hour and we will win. Bin off Smyth as a striker, get him back to the wing, worked against Swansea but we need wingers, 4-2-3-1 please! | | | |

What's going on I agree with nearly everything Gazza said Vale has talent but clearly needs to work harder when you look at the effort of some of the others; especially off the ball he tends to be too static. I doubt he'll be starting once Chair is fully fit. It was a good early shot they scored from, maybe Charles wasn't quite set for it but I think he'll be disappointed he didn't do better. Re strikers good ones cost money - the key thing for us is getting Burrell fit again. The same old injuries yarn, but if our best players are fit then you'd like to think we'll win more.

Yeah was saying about Saito last night, he was useful as a loan player but really we should never have signed him permanently. Could have used the funds better elsewhere in the squad.

| Burnley Reflection on 09:57 - Nov 4 with 411 views | 89_50 | Think JS got this one a little wrong in the set up. Would have preferred Smyth on the left running at Walker. We seemed to lack width and crowded the centre of the pitch constantly. Vale and Saito dropping 4/10 performances too frequently for my liking. I really like Vale's technical ability, but he's far too anonymous and far too casual in his play this season. | | | |
| Burnley Reflection on 10:02 - Nov 4 with 391 views | Spaceman_P | I only watched the second half due to kids etc But next year for sure I think Varane and Saito need to go, we need stronger midfielders. Both guys above, I like as people and feel they are both good sorts, but sadly they just don't work for us. Varane especially is someone I really wanted it to work for. His goal last night was one of the few times he's passed the ball forwards. MOM for me was Ronnie closely followed by Kamara I don't want be a boo boy, but the guys above are just not at the same level as the rest. I even include Vale, because he feels like a work in process lets see what hes about after the new year. At least we didn't lose. but felt disappointed. | Burnley Reflection on 10:08 - Nov 4 with 375 views | terryb | Like some of our injured players, I'm hoping to be able to make it back to LR after the international break, so my comments are based on watching the game on Sky. I thought we looked quite good for the opening 30 minutes. That is, quite good until we got close to the Burnley penalty area! Our decision making in that part of the pitch was very poor, with the main culprits being Smyth & Saito who both decided they could do everything by themselves. On the other hand, Kamara was always looking to lay the ball off even though he was in a better position than those he passed to. Our period of domination had ended before the Burnley goal & we never regained it. I was a little surprised that they didn't score a second. Both goals were due to poor goalkeeping & between both sides there were only two real chances created ( I don't include shots from outside the area, although Edwards came close to scoring). These were for the chance Chair skied & the Obikwu one at the end. Ilias looked to be a long way short of being ready to start a game as he was quite wayward with his passing & slow to react when in possession. I'm sure he will come good though. Gazza mentioned the poor header from Edwards that led to the Burnley goal & the same applied to the second Southampton goal on Saturday. Other than that, I would say that Ronnie was our best player last night. | | | |

Varane did many forward passes but somehow nobody on this forum sees them... He played deep so not always in his remit to do killer passes, but he got a goal and could have had an assist too, it was his pass that put Obikwu through on goal,

| Burnley Reflection on 23:00 - Nov 3 by Logman | Didn't think Burnley were that bad. Just looked like a team that had been mismanaged. If their new manager knows how to get a tune out of them I think they will start climbing the table. I also didn't think we were that bad. But it broke down too often with the players who aren't quick enough on the ball and Glen Kamara seems to be retreating into his shell too often. By and large however I thought we got players forward quite well and with a bit more confidence and panache in the box we could easily have won by a couple of goals. |
I'd agree with that. We missed Madsen - Varane and Kamara isn't a creative partnership at all, though Varane did score granted. I thought Chair made a positive difference, good to see him back. And not to start another chapter, but Kolli to my eyes didn't seem to put in a proper press or challenge the whole time he was on. You could see the contrast in real time compared to other players in lack of aggression and commitment. Frustrating.

I agree with that part about Kamara winning and having the ball, Burnley's midfield was the almost impossible combination of anonymous and atrocious at the same time. But that just highlighted how much less suited he is to having to play a 10 role because shooting and final killer passes are not his strong point. All that ball, an absent opposition midfield, and yet so little danger created. A little further back with a Chair for him to interact with and feed is much more his game I think. His middle third carry and link play is excellent.
| Burnley Reflection on 11:18 - Nov 4 with 224 views | calHoop | Incredible over-reaction in places. Loads of chances to score. Edwards header first half, Smyth shot first half, Kamara effort second half, Chair chance, Obikwu through at the end. These were good to excellent chances. If my eyes didn't deceive me, I think Dunne totally missed the flight of a header in the second half he'd usually put away. We played pretty well last night, considering the second half performance Saturday. Realistically should have won by a couple of goals, all that whilst considering missing some of our first 11 and with some players blowing out of their arses, some not fully fit, and others well out of form. | | | |
| Burnley Reflection on 11:28 - Nov 4 with 194 views | LazyFan | We were poor but still managed to get a draw. Burnley had two chances to score and scored one of them from a hit and hope. Charles was at fault for that, caught out. But their keeper was caught out too and should have saved Varanes shot. Chair was an immediate difference, scuffed his shot over and then after that messup started to control the left flank for us. Kamara was very good and even Varane played well. But Vale was like playing with 10 men. Constantly gave the ball away. Cirkin took too long to get into the game properly. And Adamson had a average tough night as well. Smyth and Kone were marked out of the game. However, Burnley are not the worst to come to QPR. That would be PNE. When you 2-0 and a man up after 20 mins and you only get a draw from a weakened QPR side, this means you're the worst team in the division. Derby second worst not because of being thrashed but because of the way they responded to it. Should have been 3 pts, but well take the 1. Its great to have Chair back, he still got it. We miss Madsen a lot. | |
