Maybe tonight they’ll actually have to show more football. I hate the endless punditry these days.

Yep more football for me as well, i cannot justify having public money given to these multi millionaire hypocrites for stating the obvious. Saying that i defend the free speech aspect of this arguement, but he has signed a contract and had aa previous warning, i love the way these people preach their socialist wokisms whilst actively looking for loopholes in the tax laws.

In 2012 he was guilty of being part if an illegal tax avoidance scheme and had to pay HMRC back tax if £4.9 million.

Seems like he is Robin Hood in reverse he takes money from the poor to fund his champagne socialist life style. Hypocrisy of course.

We do not need Lineker

a) Grossly over paid
b) Does not pay enough tax and objects to claims for tax
c) Encourages youngsters to eat very unhealthy food (Walkers crisps)
d) Works for a FT100 company (BT) reliant on goodwill from HMG while insulting HMG

Wise sage since Toshack era

Gary’s a 🛎️ end. So are the band wagon mob like Wright and Scott. Even those who weren’t asked to present are standing down from presenting. How beggy can you get haha. But so long as certain people blow smoke up their arses for being “brave” they’ll revel in it and be no worse off themselves. Nothing will change, it’s just this week/months social media “political” nonsense that whatever the consequence gets us nowhere but backward.

MOTD would be so much better without punditry anyway. So this might be the best things that’s happened to the BBC and its licence fee payers.

We live in a country with free speech.

With a Government pressurising a company to sack someone for criticising them we are one step away from people being imprisoned.

Agree or disagree with what he says he has the right to say it

Or they’re principled.

If they didn’t do anything they’d be called hypocritical.

Free speech….I don’t think so. Ask J K Rowling if we live in a country where free speech is nurtured and valued.

Free is acceptable only if you agree with it , Rowling has had a torrid time expressing not only her opinion but facts . No ones shouting from the roof tops defending her rights

Not when it comes to the BBC
The external activities and public comments, for example on social media, of staff, presenters and others who contribute to our output can also affect perceptions of the BBC’s impartiality. Consequently, this section should be read in conjunction with Section 15: Conflicts of Interest

Conflicts of Interest
15.3.5 There are four principal areas of risk that may arise from an individual’s external interests and activities. These risks exist across all output areas:

the risk of bringing the BBC into disrepute
the risk of bringing the BBC’s impartiality into doubt
the risk of bringing the BBC’s independence into doubt
the risk of an individual’s commercial interests, promotional work, external activities and other interests compromising the BBC’s integrity.

His issues with HMRC relate to the IR35 regs which have impacted on lots of people who’ve been self employed. It’s been a real issue for lots of people. His position has is no different to hundreds of thousands if not millions of uk citizens who’ve been in the same boat.

I certainly don’t think he’s the Al Capone you’re making him out to be.

The above could equally apply to the guy Bots parachuted in to the BBC, the same guy who allegedly organised his loan and who also donated cash to the Conservative party. There got to be consistency across the piste.

BBC is not a company. It is a public broadcaster. He has to be impartial in his role and needs to avoid embarrassing his employers. A a free lancer he has exchanged cash for job security.

But this has not been applied to Andrew Neil (aka Brillo) ….?

There is no impartiality.
The BBC is bent.

Andrew Neil was a political analysis so of course he would put across his analysis of politics. Just as Alastair Campbell was Tony Blairs director of communications and would put across labour's spin.

Gary Lineker is a sport presenter and under his terms of contract is supposed to be political neutral. Even you can understand that.

I wonder how many are aware of their Companies Policy on social media , anything which could bring the company into disrepute and subsequently proven is often subject to disciplinary proceedings . I know my Company has and is very sensitive towards protecting its public profile

I wonder how many actually read the fine detail of their own contract of employment. On a couple of occasions I refused to sign a contract until it was revised. Lineker like many broadcasters is self employed and would have a detailed contract. I would be surprised if he wasn't in breach of this.

I think people should be able to have whatever opinion they like, as long as it’s not overtly offensive, whether I agree with him or disagree doesn’t come into it,

What I do find amusing though is that the same people backing him to the hilt over this, are also the same people who want someone of the opposite political stance banned whenever they share their views.
