In my opinion the BBC board got it wrong in that he should never have been suspended in the first place.
The BBC suspended Lineker for his tweets, however other prominent presenters who’ve done very similar things and posted tweets on political matters haven’t been suspended, so there is a huge inconsistency in how Lineker has been treated in comparison to some others. I’m not defending what Lineker said for 1 minute, but I am defending his right to say it because others who have done almost identical things have never been sanctioned or pulled up. I honestly believe the BBC management (which has a number of key figures heavily connected to the Conservative Party) has buckled under pressure from the Government who don’t like what he’s said and any criticism.
There needs to be clear guidance as to what is acceptable and what isn’t, there also needs to be consistent of those rules afterwards and anyone who beaches them is dealt with in a fair and consistent manner.
I don’t believe Lineker has become unreliable, but I don’t agree with his £40k per week salary.
As the licence fee is collected from everyone regardless of their views or persuasions it seems obvious that the rules for employees should be clear. I'm not sure people on big long term salaries should be employed as contractors rather than PAYE?

I totally agree with you about regarding the rules being clear - there should be no ambiguities, but there are and it needs sorting. There also needs to be a consistent application of any rules.
I totally agree with your point about being employed on PAYE and contractors, I believe it’s something government has done some work on and it’s caused some discontent.

BBC has no backbone and never has. I never thought Gary would as a sub contractor be released for one moment. in my world sub contractors who become unreliable get released.
Luvvies rule. £40 k a week. Its a joke.

Why not just surrender all common sense and let everyone in then . that way the woke would have their victory and the right a debate on the rise in rapes, assaults, murder etc which would follow .

Who’s advocating letting everyone in?
We need a sensible approach on imm which ensures only those who are deserving of a place in this country are allowed in. The situation is a mess, we’ve got tough talk from the government but it’s all empty rhetoric, they’ve procrastinated on getting this sorted for years.

Back in the day when Teresa May was in the Home Office, I'm pretty sure they admitted that it was cheaper to keep migrants (both EU and non EU) on the sausage roll than it was to properly staff Border Force. Read into that what you will

Theres enough out in the wider world that do advocate open borders and that cannot be denied , many University students make compelling arguments for it , (who incidentally a large number become politicians ) we've all seen in the media the demonstrations .and then we have many groups who want it

Who? The many WOKE lefty loons out there who cannot even understand the most basic common sense, critical thinking and junior school level maths that goes along the lines of e.g. "you cannot pour a pint into a half pint glass" or "you cannot put twenty people into a taxi cab".
BTW I warned on here about what would happen a few years back and was proved 100% correct. Not exactly rocket science or something to brag about, because many millions could predict that also. You would have to be seriously thick or politically warped not to foresee the upcoming case of "the bleeding bloody obvious".
Basic common sense seen in engineering e.g. load (weight) bearing capacity.....Military/Brigade H.Q forward planning e.g. logistical supply and accommodation to facilitate/sustain a deployment.....Big business e.g. balancing the figures and having a supply chain to equal demand.
You see its bleeding bloody obvious that soon, there will not be enough hotels left to house unsustainable numbers in a country where the population has increased by the equivalent of FORTY SWANSEA sized populations. Where are they going to go then?
Year 2,000 U.K population 58,890,000 year 2023 U.K population 68,843,000. By the end of the year it'll be over TEN MILLION!!!!! Happened under Labour and Tories!
Many want unlimited numbers of incomers and for it to be applicable to anyone and everyone from overseas, despite the fact that there will be nowhere to put them and when hotel availability runs dry. Oh and they do not even want processing. FFS seriously!!!!
QUOTE: "On its final day, Labour conference has approved a radical policy motion advocating the extension of free movement, the closure of all detention centres and the awarding of equal voting rights to all UK residents."

As for that policy, it could be quite sensible. Extension of free movement is happening now with selected skilled workers coming into the UK to fill employment gaps.
Who wants detention centres? (or 'Hotels' as they're now known). The Tories don't, they want people shipped off to Rwanda double quick.
If you're a legal resident why not have the vote (with some sensible caveats).
In any case, that's the 2019 conference so from a pretty different Labour Party.
Come on, there's 67 million people in the UK, wheres this pressure for unlimited immigration coming from? I'm sure you could find someone on the internet who proposes it but find someone in the real world with actual political pull.

None of the mainstream electoral parties are advocating open borders. You won't hear it from the SNP, Labour, Greens, Plaid, or Lib Dems but its much easier to create and attack a fictitious "out group" woke coalition who are supposedly holding the borders wide open for all and sundry to pile in, than it is to reckon with the idea that maybe the people they entrust to resolve this issue are incompetent chancers who are only using this issue to draw attention away from their piss poor record at governing the country.
The tories have been in charge of our borders for 13 years now and they are still blaming everyone else for the mess they've made. What's funny is there are actually grown ups walking among us who actually believe them when they say they are going to sort their own mess out. You have to pity these easily exploited simpletons.

All of the problems you're agitated about have been made worse by the conservative government who have been in charge of our borders for the last 13 years. You can now rest easy knowing the fictitious ensemble of woke lefties you'd previously proscribed blame to aren't responsible for your woes, and in fact, they aren't even real. Lucky you.

Fictitious?
Are any of the people in that video in charge of running the country? Are any of the people in that video elected representatives? Are any of the people in that video advocating for uncontrolled borders?
The answer of course is no. So this is a debate that only exists in your own head and you're still losing it lol.

Extension of free movement is happening now with selected skilled workers coming into the UK to fill employment gaps" I note the operative word you use " selected" so a form of vetting has taken place which allows individuals to settle and work here as opposed to non selection which is the case now for many. Regarding your comment about detention centres > I'm sure the owners of the Copthorne hotel in Cardiff for example would be pleased to hear you call it that .
67 million people in the UK, where's this pressure My local surgery as many others cannot cope with the increased work load right now , dentists not taking on new patients etc , the lack of accommodation , class sizes have never been bigger , social services overwhelmed etc I'm all for immigration but it has to be controlled so its doesn't have a negative affect on society and why should it , it should never be a race to the bottom

I would define "controlled immigration" very basically as a system where you impose restrictions or qualifiers on who is eligible to immigrate to a country or not.
Personally I think we should give an "illegal" immigrant, by which I presume you mean someone who does not have the legal right to remain working or living in this country, an opportunity to make their case as to why they should be allowed to stay here. If they are successful in their application they stay, if not then they get deported.

It's more than 67 million according to other sources. That I guess is probably down to the difference of accounting that factors in undocumented arrivals.
On the subject about skilled workers i.e. Swansea Health University Board has in recent times employed 500 overseas nurses to fill its gaps/vacancies, because Welsh staff have left or retired because of the sheer pressure they were under. If only those Albanian boats contained DBS acceptable health professionals.
Yep! Controlled immigration is vital whilst unsustainable intake(s) of others will only have catastrophic repercussions.

We already have controlled immigration, doctors, nurses, skilled and some unskilled workers, they are are legal immigrants, whom are welcome.
"Illegal immigrant" as someone that has entered the UK illegally. We already have restrictions on who qualifies to remain, unfortunately there are so many loopholes that are used under the ECHR that hardly any are deported, we even have great difficulty in deporting serious criminals, surely that can't be right.

Sorry, It may be me, but I don't think you have been clear.
How would you like to see this country control illegal immigration ?
We had thw ability pre referendum to send EU migrants back after 3 months if they could not sustain themselves. The austerity years resulted in a choice being made to keep EU migrants on the sausage roll as it was cheaper than a fully staffed border force.
Ironically apprenticeship starts are also down across the piste too and once again the option of scapegoating migrants is chosen over dealing with the real issues. Decades of policy failure have led us here

I'm glad you reminded us that decades of policy failure by both parties has been the cause of where we find ourselves today , Blair's tenure was a social disaster ,whole enclaves formed because too many were allowed to settle here without a structured integration policy ,another political party making use of the plight of innocents just to retain power , nice Mr Blair I think ill vote for him etc

Sorry, It may be me, but I don't think you have been clear.
How would you like to see this country control illegal immigration ?
I’ll have a go and it’ll be a simplistic version and I’m by no means pretending to be an expert. I’ve no doubt there’s holes….
Firstly I’ll have to look back. I’d never have left the EU and I’d have tried to make the Dublin agreement work better. I appreciate that’s no longer on the table.
So here we go. I’d make sure that there are safe and legal routes available for those who need it. If these were available I’d be more than happy to take far stronger action on those coming in on small boats etc. This would reduce the need for anyone to use traffickers.
I’d invest heavily in processing so that it’s done as quickly as possible. This means that those (and these are the vast majority, remember) are granted asylum and get on with helping the economy and don’t get stuck in costly accommodation. This is even more pertinent now as we’ve lost the low skilled migrant workers that came through freedom of movement.
For those deemed to have come in illegally the I would be comfortable with deportation back to county of origin or to a third party country. This would have to be done with European partners to ensure the load is shared as equitably as possible.
This would need to be done cross party to drown out the extremes who want to turn it into a culture war.
I’m not sure that’s too controversial but tin hat on!
