| tonight on 23:14 - Nov 5 by EN_Ranger | What’s mental to me, is that we set up and try to play like a counter attacking team at home. Away it makes sense, but at home where teams defend deep and let us have the ball its madness. There doesn’t appear to be a plan B for when we have possession and are not on the break either. I’m not against the manager yet but we can’t play like this all season. Also, stop floating the ball into the box from 40 yards out, it doesn’t work! |
We had 61% possession tonight. We were the better team but we gifted them two goals. On all stats that should have been a home win. But if you fall over the ball in defence 20 yards out, and then let someone stride unchallenged for 50 yards, you will lose games of football at this level. We missed Steve Cook and Sam Field’s basic game nous tonight. Southampton were nothing special, but they won. Burrell and RND were by miles our best players. Burrell makes a goal out of nothing, and RND was superb up and down the pitch. Why he is being asked to provide ALL our attacking width, I don’t know. And it’s a shame Utd will recall him in Jan. He is quality. Varane was pony again. That boy is coasting. Wants out. Field should be starting instead. Chair is a conundrum. Arguably our best player. But the team seems to play worse when he starts. Do the others not know how to play with him?

Imagine watching that travesty of a goal and clapping. Give me strength.

Varane is "Pleasure at the fairground", absolutely no awareness of anything, coasting is a stretch, the guy lives inside his own head. Literally coasts and hides.... the Mick Hucknall of footballers... "pleasure at the fairground on the way.... and I love the thought...." etc etc... baller however (or some such)

| tonight on 23:08 - Nov 5 by Paddyhoops | I didn’t clap the goal . Was right behind it . Would be nice if somebody put a tackle in instead of backing off . Mbengue at fault for first goal . Once again self inflicted . 3 home defeats in a row in front three full houses . Know idea how we keep filling the stadium. Home form just abysmal . Season after season |
Don't forget our magnificent goalless draw with the mighty Oxford which proceeded the three defeats on the trot. Once again it looks like we need away wins to save us just like the last three seasons. As per usual we have found another club who we contrive to lose too every time we face them. Lost count now of consecutive Saints wins over us and damn sick of it as well.
| tonight on 23:28 - Nov 5 with 2046 views | CateLeBonR | Still haven't seen it back but sounds like it wasn't Nardis fault for the second but since the good save a few games back it seems like every time the other team shoots it's a goal. I had a good view of this one too and it seemed there was a good amount of time to react. | | | |

Well, the comparison is to before he became fit again, not Ipswich, as he started that one too. I don’t want this to get into a Chair debate. But it’s happened 4 times now that results worsen when he returns to the team after a bout out injured. It is weird. We were better tonight than Ipswich. We deserved at least a point, if not all 3. The stats tell us that. But it felt like we just huffed and puffed a lot. 39 crosses, most of which were cut back inside and out in an inswinger from 30/40 yards out. 58 clearances from Southampton. 61% possession. Lots of effort, few good moves and clear cut chances. We’re still stuck in a spiral of not knowing our best team. I’m pretty sure tonight was a conscious effort to play out from the back again. I’d love to know where that originated from. It resulted, eventually, in Mbengue falling over his feet and gifting them the first. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Ably not assisted by Mick Hucknall aka. Jonathan Varane, who literally gave up on trying and attempting any form of defensive nous as he had just run another 10 yards... then waved his arms aloft like someone else's issue. .. | tonight on 00:00 - Nov 6 with 1767 views | Nov77 | Not sure about XG, but they had two shots on target tonight and scored two. Seems to happen every game now, a higher percentage of their shots on target seem to end up in our net than vice versa. Nardi seems to have the presence of Ronnie Corbett in goal. He achieved another Tony Robert’s ratio™️ of 1 tonight.

Superb ball by Varane for Burrells goal I thought? Decent enough game I thought. If anyone chucked it in after 20 minutes tonight it was Madsen, completely AWOL for entire 2nd Half. Morgans cameo showed what we needed from Madsen, getting his head up, opening his body and playing passes in behind etc.

I was sick of that so much that I have started sitting in the School End Lower. So much more leg room than other parts of the ground and you barely hear let alone see the fun they are having. They were pony. The shot their 'keeper saved in the first half (was it from Madsen?) Won them that game. We score first, we win. BUT we didn't despite dominating the ball and having the chances...

| tonight on 22:24 - Nov 5 by CateLeBonR | I thought we had arguably the two best players on the night. I've got Burrell on 8/10 and Norrington-Davis 7/10. All the rest 5 and below. Not seen the second saints goal back but I thought Nardi was at fault again terrible footwork. |
Nothing to do with the scorer running 40-50 yards unchallenged then?

| tonight on 00:35 - Nov 6 with 1586 views | R_from_afar | I fear that, as a club, we've become a bit pretentious and complacent. This goes back probably five years or more. While I'll happily agree that new tactics do come along and can be very effective, they need to complement the basics - sprinting, marking, tracking back, tackling, shooting and passing accurately etc - not replace them. I expect professional players, and coaches for that matter, tire of focusing on the simple stuff and prefer to concentrate on fresher and more exciting tactics in training, but teams ignore the basics at their peril. Or something . | |

Completely agree. Embarrassing from Dembele and those backing off into our own penalty area . He received the ball in his own half ffs ! Read a lot stuff about Chair on here today. My own personal view is that this team , this club , is starting to become a millstone round his neck. I know he didn’t help himself a couple of summers ago and some will disagree with me. But since Eze left, Chair has been our only real creative player surrounded by sub standard team mates and 2 bob tactics . Yes he infuriates at times , but he works tirelessly to find a way , often on his own. Even on Saturday he was criticised for holding on to the ball too long whilst breaking…but throughout that , the 2 forwards everyone said he should have passed too were just running alongside defenders . They didn’t try to create an angle or check their run to make space ….he waited for an option, as so often , it didn’t happen. Saying that when Chair plays the team often loses is a bit of a nonsense …we’ve lost a large percentage of games in the last 10 years whether he plays or not . He’s our best player by a country mile , still ……and that really says it all. He’s been let down by the process of building a team to actually get the very best out of him. He deserves better .
| tonight on 01:37 - Nov 6 with 1434 views | NorthantsHoop | RND was superb tonight, shame he was let down by those around him, really tried hard all game, and Burrell again worked hard and got his goal, but again most of the rest fell short. Rangers are so prone to making costly errors and get easily punished. Overall we are a bang average team with a bit of promise, but lacking quality and consistency to progress. I actually think we have a better squad of players than we have had for a few seasons, whether the manager is right who knows, at the moment his tinkering is not helping. | | | |

But wasn't his "tinkering" (ie: willingness to try different players/formations etc.) a significant reason why he was hired? As opposed to having the same players run the same patterns game after game with mediocre results.
