They hold 20% for general sale so they should be releasing 1800 more tickets at 7pm but almost 7000 sold already is pretty decent |

My understanding was that it was going be down-sized to a 25k athletics stadium (was never intended to stay at 80k) and the national team would move from Crystal Palace (16k) to there. They are now in Birmingham (18k).
An utter balls-up by the Olympics legacy people and the West Ham owners utterly pulled their pants down knowing there was really no other option (Orient too small, Spurs too far/encroaching into east London territory) so they were able to get it for 2' 6" and some Werthers Originals.
That doesn't make it a good football stadium though because it was designed and built to be re-purposed into a smaller athletics stadium, which never happened.

This is true. The bottom tier (25k) was constructed as a permanent massive concrete structure and the top tier (55k) as a lighter-weight temporary structure which would be removed after the Olympics. If Seb Coe had a part in that type of design I imagine it was intended to make the stadium as difficult to convert for football as they could get away with. The threat of a football takeover would have been obvious to them.
Once the politicians got involved after the Olympics all they could think of avoiding being saddled with a 'White Elephant, whatever the costs and drawbacks of converting it. | | | |
