| K&L on 00:00 - Oct 15 with 2338 views | numptydumpty | Yes Connell was intrigued myself to see how they both would match up with each other. Alfie has definitely gone up a couple of notches this season, still all hustle and bustle but he is much more effective than previous seasons, and it was certainly a tidy finish. Kolli definitely today was more about giving the defence something to deal with but the shot from outside the box just tipped over the bar was superb. We have all seen his long range worldies for the development squad - nearly similar today. But as a pair today i enjoyed them. Although, when Derby's defender went off midway through the first half, that meant they had nine defensive first team squad members out injured, and it showed. Lets see when the two of them are up against more impressive championship opponents. But today - well done to both lads. [Post edited 15 Oct 0:05]

| K&L on 01:10 - Oct 15 with 2165 views | extratimeR | Yes, very pleased with both of them, the goal will make big difference for Alfie, off the mark and now has chance to get a couple of games under belt, I think his pace and physicallaty will work well with Ryan, great to see Poku out their tonight as well | | | |

| K&L on 07:34 - Oct 15 with 1667 views | Paddyhoops | Thought both were great last night . Especially Kolli . Worked really hard against some massive lumps . Adamson was really good as well . Finally some players coming through. Bodes well . | | | |
| K&L on 07:55 - Oct 15 with 1563 views | Wilkinswatercarrier | Thought Kolli was pretty anonymous most of the game and looking across at JS he didn't seem overly pleased with some of Kollis pressing. Lloyd was OK. Good to get a goal. Need Burrell and Kone back firing. | |

| K&L on 07:58 - Oct 15 with 1552 views | stevec | Both did a job well. I might need to have a rethink about what’s going on, but once again, despite scoring four goals, I’m struggling to remember the widemen getting a single pass in a goalscoring position to the CF, that’s despite Smyth having another excellent game. A brilliant pass from Edwards undoubtedly, but would it have worked with any of our CF’s. Poku made the kind of run I’ve been crying out for him to do but never does, it was a shame it went wide, but his run and control was exactly what a CF should be looking to do and they don’t. On the other hand, that Poku cross, when completely free, three Rangers running in against three Derby, straight into the keepers hands must have the forwards wondering why bother. Something we need to sort out, even after a 4-1 thrashing. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

That's a good observation, Steve. Smyth played well last night, as he has done all season, but the one thing that lets him down time and again is his final ball/cross. The best crosses last night came from Kolli, who I'd like to see go wide to deliver a ball more often.

Well as they linked up on occasion I suspect against Brum we will revert to the set up that worked well at WHU - Jimmy and JCS in defence, Ronnie the extra midfielder.

'I might need to have a rethink about what’s going on, but once again, despite scoring four goals, I’m struggling to remember the widemen getting a single pass in a goalscoring position to the CF, that’s despite Smyth having another excellent game' I think you do need a rethink, when it was 0-0 that cross by Smyth was sublime that was hooked off the line and their defender injured himself doing so. Smyth is there to use his trickery and get into the box and even still I think he made a few good crosses. We do miss Saito or Chair for the left hand side On the subject of Kolli, he was ok last night - A great shot had it been on target that would have beaten most keepers and a good set up for Vale's goal... BUT his defensive work is appalling. He tried to be too clever on the edge of our box and lost the ball and in his enthusiasm to retrieve the ball and make amends for his mistake committed a foul which luckily the ref overlooked because otherwise Derby would have had a free kick in a dangerous area. He needs to do the basics and clear the ball not try trickery in a dangerous area, he does have history for that and it often results in a needless free kick.

Yes, I thought Kolli was actually poor last night, not so much in his forward play, but in his use of possession. That was one of several times he gave the ball away, usually through hopeless passing.
| K&L on 11:22 - Oct 15 with 1022 views | W7Ranger | Not sure I get some of the comments regarding Smyth. He's been one of our most consistent players so far this season. There's so much more to his game than getting decent crosses in (which has improved significantly in my opinion) He's been involved in 4 of our last 7 goals. Works his absolute nuts off for the team, whilst getting battered in the process! Love him. | | | |
| K&L on 11:30 - Oct 15 with 966 views | gazza1 | Smyth gives it all & that is all we can ask.....lacks consistency but a pain in the side whenever he is on the pitch. Kolli.....was pretty average again last night, so weak. I will be suprised if he starts at B'ham. Lloyd, limited but simalar to Smyth attitude wise, puts it around, works hard. I think we will not start with both Kollie & Lloyd at B'ham....Lloyd ahead of Kolli, Kolli replaced by a winger. | | | |

What do you mean? If you are referring to your lovechild, I have been even with what I thought, he was good in places, but that move on the edge of the box was stupid and we would criticise anyone had there been a free kick given. Its good to want to make amends for an error but not fly in to a rash challenge Its not a blinkered view it is a fair summary of his performance last night - I am clearly not alone, but how would you view his performance, I am all ears - You can't make snide comments without a constructive discussion

| K&L on 16:50 - Oct 15 with 482 views | ViewFrom165 | Two completely different players that contributed positively in completely different ways yesterday. Can't quite call them a pairing as Lloyd played off the left but they linked up well in the build up to Vale's goal and the move that resulted in Kolli's shot from the edge of the box. I liked how they backed each other up off the ball as well. It's weird to see that Kolli is getting dug out for giving the ball away a couple of times and not always pressing correctly when there were other culprits guilty of that last night. I heard Stephan shouting at Vale and Kamara about not pressing in the first half too for example. I get some people can't help their agendas but give him a break, he's worked his way back from the wilderness clearly on merit and is still playing catch up on Championship match sharpness, the team shape, patterns of play and synergy with his team mates. I think he's played better than Kone has all season in his 2 appearances and is showing good signs of finding his form again. Really pleased for Lloyd getting the Goal and he put in a great shift before tiring. | | | |
| K&L on 17:38 - Oct 15 with 379 views | WestbourneR | Been a big advocate of Kolli and he showed some of his touches of real class last night - but overall I thought his work-rate and off the ball runs were lazy and sub par across the 90 mins. One of the things I've liked about Kolli the past is his physicality and aggression to go with his talent - but I felt he phoned it in last night. Didn't put himself about enough or make any runs in behind. He was utterly shown up by the industry of Alfie Lloyd actually. Disappointing and I'm starting to see his reported attitude problems in a clearer light. Varane, on the other hand, did really well when he came on and deserves more game time as a result. | |

We win 4-1 with this striker pairing and your conclusion from that match is we need Burrell and Kone (who can barely run 5 yards) back and firing I love that we have goals across the team. I hope we get Burrell back soon But from what i have seen of Kone recently - we are going to need lloyd and kolli on a frequent basis

It wasn’t Kamala’s best game thought it was too easy for him and he got sloppy. Vale, goal apart could have done more against a poor side. At the moment Kone is not playing well enough to lead the line on his own and with Burrell injured Kolli and Lloyd have the opportunity to,press their claims. They won’t do it every game but both have shown they can hold their own in this division but need help from whichever wide player us fit to play alongside them. Shame that both Lloyd and Kolli are called out for what certain people think they can’t do rather than appreciated for what they can.
