| Random irritations.. on 03:26 - Aug 18 by TwoHalves | I’m currently wanting to put a brick through the TV screen every time the ‘couple’ from the travel insurance ad come on. I’d like to think there’s a special place in hell reserved for the dozy ‘wife’: “Ah, but remember what you forgot last year”. What did he forget last year? A vial of strychnine would be my bet. Also, the smug, self-satisfied git wallowing in a post-cremation bath: “Smart cookie, that Millie”. [Post edited 18 Aug 8:11]

This is down to greedy airlines charging extra just to sit next to the people they're travelling with. Ryanair even charged people to sit with their kids before they were forced off it.

Honestly, kids should be banned from flying for the first four years of their lives. And listen, it's not the kids' fault. I don't much like flying either. Of course they're f**ked off. It's the parents. Especially those maniacs who take a baby to some European holiday. Putting a baby in a plane is madness. Being stuck in a pressured cylinder dealing with the noise and all the ear pressure shit? And then they open the doors and now it's madly hot. And you're a baby, unable to deal with it, unable to get comfortable or ask 'hey, mum. What the f**k is going on?" "So what? Are you saying that we're not allowed to go on holiday." Yes. Well at least not anywhere that's going to traumatise your kid for three hours each way. Like fair enough if you're flying to America to get experimental medical treatment for the bairn. But to put that little fella on a beach for two weeks? Get f**ked. You're a shit parent. You're Karen Matthews. Also, if you're in a restaurant/cafe and a baby/toddler kicks off, it should be actual law that the parents have to take the kid and go. Not if the kid is a bit grizzly or whatever. There are levels. But if it's having an Athletico Spazz 80 for like ten minutes, you've got to go. Take your food and f**k off. Thing is, you know if your kid is that sort of kid. You know if they can handle their shit in the face of scrambled eggs on brioche. Like I can't just go into a nice cafe with a pack of howling dogs and be like 'well, it's their right to be here.'

My son and his partner took my under 2-year old grandson on a 4-hour flight to Fuerteventura for a week's holiday earlier this year. He was well-behaved, polite, and no trouble. He didn't act up because he knows not to. It IS the parents, but there aren't any exams, training, or licensing, so you don't know what quality of parent you're going to get. If you were on my son's plane, you were fortunate. To avoid the kids' meltdowns when away, I go adults only. So much nicer.

Any ad that shows the kids as in charge, spoilt brat making dad go through the shopping an item at a time, same as the water ad with all the kids telling the grown ups off, I would have got a wallop for taking to an adult the way some kids do in adverts. The fat kid and his entire family in the on the beach ad, ditto the “jet2”’families, teach your kids how to eat properly! Charity ads “just £30 a month” by the time the donkeys, bears, kids in Africa, dogs, medical sans frontier have all appeared in the same set of ads you’d be skint. Anyone else fed up with the quality of ads at the moment. [Post edited 17 Aug 21:54]

Something I don't quite get here. There's obviously a school of thought in advertising that the critical factor is to make something people remember regardless of how irritating it is, because what they're chasing is brand recognition. But do they factor in the negative impact of that recognition as you're demonstrating?
