I fully agree what you say about Samir Zitouni, the sort of person who this country needs so much more of, sadly though people like himself are the silent forgotten public who never asked to be put in the position they find themselves in , defending themselves against some who's extreme ideology isn't nor ever will align with the majority.
Fair point Boundy. I agree that extreme ideology is a curse in our society whether that be religious, cultutral or political. Most people just want to live their lives in relative peace and comfort and feel that their hard work is worth something.
The sad thing is that the extremist minority on all sides take up most of the news. We fundamentally all want the same thing but may disagree about how to get there. Working people in this country of all backgrounds and beliefs have more in common with each other than those who look to divide us.
Re: Musk, I think someone who thinks that they are worth 1 trillion is entrenched in an extreme ideology every bit as pervasive and dangerous as any archaic religious ideology. . So much money that the mind can hardly comprehend the figure. If £1 = 1 second, it would take 7 days to count to £1 million, 32 years to count to £1 billion and 32,000 years to count to £1 trillion. Utterly obscene and he has the gall to run down and create division in our country.

The problem is there are no tools to defend to yourself other than suitcases. In a bar or cafe there are chairs. On the other hand the assailant has people coming at him from two directions.
The confusion is so great that at first it was thought that there were two assailants.The second "black guy" as his colleague. He was innocent.
One worry for a gave a go hero is whether anybody else would help him in f he had managed to stun the assailant offering a short period to overpower him.
The guard should at least 5 base ball bats to hand out to passengers willing to help . Base ball bats to the b front andd rear would be quite a task for a .loan knife man.
Useless piece of info alert- The last of the Wild Bunch [Butch Cassidy was the leader of the gang as in the 1969 film ] Ben Kilpatrick was killed in 1912 holding up a train in Texas . He and his outlaw partner were both killed . Kilpatrick was led to the part of the carriage where the loot was , by a guard on the train. The guard told him that a package on the floor was the most valuable and that it made no difference to him if he took it as he was just a guard and didnt get paid for risking his life. What Kilpatrick didnt know was when he rested his rifle against the wall to pick the package up , Trousdale the guard whacked him over the head with an ice mallet [used for crushing ice to keep oysters fresh for the passengers ] Trousdale had spotted the opportunity to pick the mallet up unnoticed when marched at gunppint by Kilpatrick through the carriage and passing close to the oyster trolley. Having bashed Kilpatrick dead he waited for his outlaw pal Hobek to turn up and used Kilpatricks winchester to shoot him dead too . He was richly rewarded by wells fargo for his bravery and quick thinking and was photographed shortly afterwards with the propped up bodies of the 2 outlaws next to him .

A couple of years ago I was in work in a situation where I had to ask two 16yr-18yr old males to leave, after several times of them completely ignoring me, one stood up looked me straight in the eyes and said Why.....dont....you...just...fxxk....off!
That was the game changer for me and from that moment on my out look on life, people, how I conduct myself changed forever.
Friends & Family and thats it from now on.......Sad 😕

I guess that some will say he should have bought travel insurance, but this seems a poor reward after this man slowed the assailant's progress and let others escape to the locked buffet carriage.

Most of my adult life was in engineering, shift work, small groups of crew, so mainly work, home, you know the score, Then came a change, and dealing with people, not only in the UK, but around the World, it wasnt long before I was asking myself "what planet are some of these on?" it wasnt the World I was brought up in , thank God for my parents is all I can say.

The idea is one blow would incapacitate the aggressor.. At full extent out would place you out of knife strike range. He would need to be taken out of action with one blow to the head or neck. An accomplice would then remove the knife.
You don't half talk some delusional goof, it's an idea without thought, if you think that idea would stop a maniac with a knife with the intent to injure of kill, a person would need to be trained in self defence or be a trained martial artist to overpower an assailant like that on his own.

One hard blow to the head is sufficient to stun. The guard has 5 or 6 batons on a crisis situation against one assailant. A train is linear. The assailant cannot cover front and back.
