Bite their hand off! £5m to use in the summer to purchase one or two CMs who can actually pass forward. Yes please. If he goes then get someone from DS squad moved up - Isak Alemayehu.

| January transfer rumours on 17:29 - Jan 9 with 3016 views | DannyPaddox | ASSE is St. Etienne. I can’t see Sarah Cracknell (one of our own) forking out that much for a backing singer. | | | |
| January transfer rumours on 17:35 - Jan 9 with 2979 views | JamieNaz | Didn't know Cracknell was an R? Varane's on the phone and he wants to go home I'd let him for 5mil plus add ons. Then we move on to getting one or two more people in who can pass the ball forward without losing their minds | | | |
| January transfer rumours on 17:38 - Jan 9 with 2944 views | Hunterhoop | Yep. Would bite your hand off for £5m (up front). Be mad not to sell. | | | |

His form has been poor recently.

Seems like I'm one of few but apparently like Stefan and Marti who thinks Varane is playing ok and currently better when fit in central midfield than Field , Haden or Morgan. But £6 M would give a decent profit.

Not if there's an obligation to buy at the end of the loan. And with what St Etienne are offering, it would be mad not to do the deal now.

Oh yes of course. But has to be unconditional.

Yeah I feel this too. I reckon he's not at his best (definitely too slow to make a pass) but the potential is there and he does a decent defensive job in midfield. If the £5.2m is up front then I think it makes financial sense
| January transfer rumours on 18:35 - Jan 9 with 2454 views | aston_hoop | Turning a reasonably quick profit on a player is great, however good he is playing we should do it. What comes next is using it to turn 3 profits on 3 players with the proceeds. | |

| January transfer rumours on 18:44 - Jan 9 with 2388 views | bosh67 | I think Varane is happy here. At least let him play here until the end of the season and then I guess it is up to him. He's had a very in and out season so far but when he is good he's very good. Why loan him out with a view to a sale, that may not come. If they are that intent on him they can come back for a chat at the end of the season. Definitely shouldn't be in a try before you buy situation here. | |

Love a good discussion. Varane and Mads are the 1st names on JS is matchday line-up. But noted that Field has played more lately. For whatever reason he was pushed down the order but now is getting a better look. With Hayden and Morgan, plus a couple of Juniors I see no reason why it would not be prudent to take an offer for Varane with Morgan/Field/Hayden filling those shoes.

Maybe Oxford/Pompey [insert team] want a post modern mural painting down their tunnel or Home End?

Agreed, if it’s a loan to buy let it happen. We have to get our “model” back on track.
| January transfer rumours on 20:42 - Jan 9 with 1942 views | Third_Division_South | As has been said over and over again selling and reinvesting has to be the way forward not getting too attached to players. Not sure Brentford fans were always happy when Maupay, Benrama, Watkins, Toney and Mbeueno were sold and that’s just their forwards. Over £5m for a player who cost under one million and has been average at best this season is exactly the sort of deal we should be doing. | | | |

If the model is to buy young, develop and then sell on for a profit, and the report from WLS is close in terms of transfer fee, it's a no brainer to sell Varane. He's been with us 18 months, cost under £1m and we'd bank a profit of £4.2m on a player most of us think is not performing very well. The only downside to the rumoured interest is the loan before buy. Anybody remember Hevertton being loaned to Portugal OR Celar to Dusseldorf.

It’ll be French francs rather than euros based on the finances of league 1.

| January transfer rumours on 21:06 - Jan 9 with 1778 views | hertshoops | Selling for 5m or more would make sense if we have a replacement lined up I think we bought for 1m But Sporting Gijon have a sell on fee reported at the time as 30% of any profit Would that leave us with 2.7m for a replacement ? | | | |
