There is a good reason it's allowed at rugby and cricket and not at football, although test matches seem to be going in that direction too in the last few years. |  | | |

Test cricket is the best sport in the world. Far more 'interesting' than football (but yes crowds would undoubtedly be down if no booze. That says more about the UK's social habits and booze problems than it does about the sport though) [Post edited 24 Sep 13:15]

I disagree these days the match are generally over in 3 days or less.
Years ago the match could have had all 3 outcomes going into the 5th day.
Then it's was a battle of wits and mental strength between the batsman and the bowlers .
Creating an interesting and exciting finish.
Recently their was a test match with 19 wickets in the first day.
Most of the second day was rained off and it finished before tea on day three.
Not uncommon these days for one team to scorevover 400, while the other team are out for 150 having to follow on.
Where is the interesting sport in that.
Who is going to buy ticket for the 5th day of a test match.
Even the last Ashes series was no contest.

I'd be very much against it for all the reasons stated, but I'm also a child of the 90s so I have no experience of anything other than drinking in sight of the pitch being an offence.
For those on here who went to games pre-ban, how was it then? Especially in the terracing era? Was it a constant soaking then? |
I was drinking in the Loft for the beam-back of the Oldham play-off semi first leg but can't say if it was officially sanctioned or not. Tickets to the actual game were like rocking horse shìt. |  | | |

Not for me either, not just people throwing beers to celebrate a goal but sloshing it over you as they return to their seat with full pints, beers getting knocked over leaving a sticky mess and having to get up all the time for people going to buy a pint.

It happens a lot at cricket too.You put your bag or coat down under your seat and they get drenched because some clown behind is too drunk to keep his beer in the plastic glass.
