Congrats to Scottish comrades. Looking back at some of the performances I'm still scratching my head how the Scots managed to do it but credit where credit is due. They topped a difficult group and deserve their place at football's showpiece.
Red dwarf books more famous quote. Scotland fielded an enormous 8 foot goalkeeper and still didn’t qualify for second round of World Cup . Hope they prevail but as North said, Lots of them wouldn’t get in our first team which is really saying something.
Yes, would be interested to see their XG and game stats across the tournament as Greece totally out-played them at Hampden and loss,
I see fans posted wanting Dykes to start over Che Adams & Shankland despite him being scoring for fun in SPL,
Clarkes a very good Coach and realises a team is the sum of its parts, hence sticking with Dykes as McTominay and others play off him more effectively,
Like Kone & Burrell but thinks our attack seems to lack structure and a focal point at the moment, time will tell.
Three absolutely insane games I’ve watched this break, Ireland and both the Scots games. They’re a disaster of a team really, even in stoppage time against ten men Che Adams dribbled it towards the corner flag to waste time then blasts it off for a goal kick. May I suggest a throw in? You have selected GOAL KICK. But the chaos seems to work for them.
Don’t take Hanley though. I’ll play centre back, I’ve got Scottish grand parents, please, just don’t go to the World Cup with Hanley at CB.
To be fair to Adams, he was trying to win a corner to make it easier to keep in corner and run the clock down some more - But it was an epic fail
Really chuffed for Scotland. Not sure how such a limited side score three such fantastic goals, but who gives a fuc k. From 1-1 onwards that was a mad game. Never a sending-off, but after decades of sh ite luck, it's great to see Scotland finally get a bit of good luck with some of the games in this qualifying group. Pleased for Steve Clarke who has managed to get a fairly Championship squad to 3 tournaments now, which is some going. Grant Hanley at a WC would be mental.
Well, they topped their group with just a single defeat in 6, so they're no mugs. Would rather watch them and Ireland than England any day of the week.

I feel a lot of sympathy for England fans in this respect . Success is expected in qualifiers and duly delivered. Problem is there is no jeopardy for them and when you see the boredom of England fans chucking paper planes at Wembley it kinda of drives the point home. Ireland still have two more games to even get there and the idea they will have to win four successive competitive games in a row is a huge stretch. I’d love to know when the last time that happened. However seeds are now sown for future success even if they don’t qualify . One last thing is the respect on here for the smaller home nations. Don’t think it would happen the other way round.
Yes what a mad game! Very pleased for Scotland. There are some England fans who just want Scotland to lose (and look I get it the Scottish hate the English, although who really can blame them), but I always like the home nations to do well and qualify for the major tournaments.
As mentioned they're a limited side and Clarke has done a pretty good job with what he has at his disposal. Suppose they can only hope for a kind draw in the group stage and see if they can find a way to the knockouts for the first time ever.
What are the rules on whether a foul is inside or outside the box? I thought it was always clear until I saw that. Is on the line or touching the line “in the box”?
Yes they are. The same as the goal line & touchline being in the field of play.
My apologies if this query has previously been answered.

The problem with England in group games is that often they have players who are much better than the opposition. The opposition goes into a low block, or risk getting torn apart, and England have to wear them down. Doesn't make for the best spectacle, especially in the earlier stages of matches.

My Dad's from Edinburgh, and I love the country, so always want Scotland to do well. But there's no denying that a fair chunk of that squad are Championship level, which makes it a great collective achievement to have qualified for the tournament.
My mate who follows Scotland everywhere and went to all the qualifiers bar Belarus away (behind closed doors) reckons that's one of the worst qualification campaigns he's seen in terms of performances, but as plenty have remarked, Scotland are long overdue a bit of good fortune.
Patronising cu nt alert, but I guess with the way qualification groups are set up now, there's not much for the strongest teams to get excited about in beating much smaller nations, but that's obviously not the case for Wales, Scotland, N.I. RoI either qualifying or getting to the play-offs, which in itself is something to celebrate. England could have made things more interesting by not winning all their games, but I don't think you'll find too many England fans complaining.

Oh, I think quite a lot of England fans are complaining in anticipation. Flat track bullies, only got one striker, will lose as soon as they face a half decent side, etc etc.

I know. I mean I'm no great lover of the England national team but they've won their group without conceding a fcking goal, what exactly do people want? Of course the press have responded to this note perfect campaign by setting off after Bellingham. Exhausting.

You can only beat the teams that in front of you and England have swept aside all of them and its not even his set in stone starting 11 yet .They are always a threat but next year they can win it all IMO unless the heat and humidity wear them out towards the end it will be merciless in July and August. Scotland kept plugging away and fot their reward fair play but that Danish defender had a Richard Keogh moment slicing that clearence right to Tierney he wont want to watch that again. Wales , NI and ROI are all in the qualifiers but could meet each other so there is probably no chance all the home Countries make it which would have been incredible. A great International window and like somebody posted watch Jimmy Dunne score a hatrick for us Saturday

'You can only beat in front of you'
This. It should also be noted that all the teams above us in the rankings didn't.
World Cup’74 was the first time I watched pretty much everything (too many of the Mexico games were past my bedtime). Therefore I’m thrilled that Haiti have qualified this time and Italy haven’t (yet). Still sad they couldn’t hold on to their lead!

"Home Countries", Bannerman?
Is that all the countries in the British Isles? ;)
