As a fanbase we’re far too tolerant. Given how long this has been going on for, perhaps it’s time to make a point on match days; a few new songs/chants might encourage some action.

As i said in another thread the top teams in this league have quality in depth , due to the fact they spend good money on fit quality players. We can't compete with these teams hence the fact is we are basically stuck in this league . My view is you have yo spend money to have a chance to get out of it.

We tried this twice in the recent past under Warburton and Beale. We crashed and burned each time, taking 2 or 3 years to recover. In fact this is one of the reasons why we recruit players with poor injury records. Apart from Eze we haven’t made any significant sales over the past ten years. We have had opportunities, Austin, BOS, Willock to name three, but each time either held onto the player too long in a futile attempt to reach the prem or allowed their contract to run out, before attempting to renew. As a result we have been hamstrung in our recruitment and this has been exacerbated by what looks like from the outside looking in, as poor medical strategies.

A few points.

At other clubs PTs are not common and, in many cases, are banned by the club because they often know less than the club’s physios and fitness coaches and can get the players doing things which don’t align with what the players are doing at the club.

We have had several players rehab away from the club after recurring injuries and losing faith in the club’s ability to rehab them. We have had players make official complaints about the meals in the canteen and the pre-match meals (“they will eat what I f*cking tell them to eat”). One former player was less than complimentary in the nickname he had for our Director of Performance.

I’m not aware of other clubs who’s entire Performance/Physio department is headed by someone who’s background is cycling.

The same man who headed up Brooklyn Nets’ fitness and saw them achieve a record level of hamstring injuries and who parted ways with him after one season.

We do lots of things differently to other clubs. The club publicised some of this during the summer of the Ainsworth-Cifuentes season, after having a a terrible run the season before. Phased loading. Gradual ramp up. Start the season at 60% for fewer injuries at the back of the season when the Tour De France comes around. It was Nourry’s hire when he was at Retexo. And that season, we had a great record. What has followed has been 2.5 seasons of disaster.

Perhaps it’s all bad luck. Consistent bad luck. We’ve responded by putting the bloke responsible for these bad results/bad luck in charge of more and more…physios, medical team, strength and conditioning, pitches, travel, hotels, players’ diets, training ground.

I really hoped this season would be different. I truly did. I know there was a big review early into last season about how they started las season with injuries. Stephan’s methods took them by surprise and put more stress on the players muscles in early pre-season. They supposedly have factored all this in and overhauled how they were going to do it. That was what was said. I actually thought they’d made pre season two weeks’ longer, but actually it was one, and if you count the Millwall League Cup game as game 1, it was the same length.

Perhaps it’s the training ground pitches? Perhaps it’s the schedule this year? Perhaps it really just is bad luck.

BUT there is a lot of other noise. Noise the club is very aware of. The club has not been slow in getting rid or pushing people to resigning for the merest hint of not delivering what was asked of them. Ramsey, Cifuentes, Hyde, Hall, Furlong, the former Ops Director, the women’s coach, the Ticket Office Manager, and many more. And that’s not to say some didn’t deserve it. It’s just inconsistent.

Why not change the leadership of this function? That’s the question. Why wouldn’t you make a change to try to improve it? What do you have to lose?? Rather than trying to argue that we’re not the worst and there are other clubs with similarly bad injury records, why not try to be one of the best? Why not see it as something to become a league leader in give us a genuine competitive advantage…rather than deleting historic injury updates on the club website in case prospective buyers of our players choose to do their research by trawling through our club website?

Agree with all of that.

But for me the number of players looking for physical conditioning or rehab support outside of the club has to be a big red flag.

A few years ago when we had crap facilities that might have been understandable, but now we have an expensive and state of the art training ground.

Not digging at you mate.

My frustration at the clubs approach to transfers has been there for years.

It's why I hate that glossary "if there wasn't something wrong with him he wouldn't be here" tag.
It's demeaning to a proud football club formed in 1882 and such a terrible standrard to have.

I don't trust the current people steering the ship but I'm not going to sit here and say they haven't done some really good things, those are clear.
What they have categorically failed to do is build an upper level Championship squad that has to also be patently clear to everyone.

24 Osman Kakays is one side of the coin - game player but lacking at the level.
How about 24 sets of Jermaine Jenas', or Alex Dyer's or Luke Amos'???

I'll stick my pith helmet on and march off grumbling... "we can't 'alf pick 'em..."

There's been a losing mentality around this place for some time.

While I don’t disagree this year’s schedule is a challenge, QPR have played 3 games of football in a month.

Six games in 21 days before the international break though.

But other similar standing clubs have not consistently picked up the amount of injuries and long term ones we have. I appreciate some players have injury issues before they get here, and if at their top level, they would be higher up the chain, but someone in the club needs to take responsibility.

Also we rotated players during that time also.

I would suggest why not try a new performance team.

They have had a go and consistently each season with the players we have, they have failed. Maybe another set of employees here, could get better results and players would pick up less consistent issues and be brought back at the right times.

Its been several seasons of failure on this side of thing.

Appreciate, we have the players we have to manage, but surely lets give others a chance, because this team has failed every season.

Personally have nothing against Ben Williams and his team personally, but whatever way you dress this up, the department is failing. Some are mentioning personality issues etc. They can be the biggest a***h*les as people but if the results are positive, whether they are a nice person is irrelevant. We keep them.

Personalities is irrelevant. Achievements are the key. Its not happening. Lets get in a new team here. Every other aspect of the club is judged accordingly.

Lets have a change please.

Nothing to lose surely. Why wait.

Lots of good points on here that I won’t repeat for sake of it.

The smoking gun for me is the recurring players/injuries we’re seeing. Loads of teams have injuries yes. But we have the same set of 5-8 players getting similar injuries year on year. That’s not coincidence.

Can’t do anything about Mbengue/ Dembele (imo). Just devastatingly unlucky for them.

Burrell/Madsen/Chair/Lamptey/Poku/Kone/Kolli That’s mismanagement of their fitness, either by player, club, or both.

Edit: forgot JCS (somehow) - all things crossed he continues to defy the odds

There are two themes to these injuries.

1 is the kind of players we sign with an injury history, get them cheaper due to that and if it works all good but that is the gamble with the likes of Lamptey, JCS etc, they are more likely to break than flourish

2 is the pitches. SInce the move to Heston in 2022 we've had an injury crisis in all but one season, along with the pitch at Loftus Road which seemed to play a part in Mbengue and Edwards both slipping against Derby and causing one major injury and one scare. Is there something in that which is not helping the team with these injuries.

I'd also say again despite a promising start we went into the 3rd game in a week when the first had been on a friday and the second was over by half time and in the 3rd game we had half the team dead on their feet for most of the game. again something not right there.

In a tight league this stuff matters and will be the difference between top 8 and bottom 8.

The other slightly worrying aspect to this is that some of the players currently on the ‘fit list’ we know are made of glass (JCS and Poku) and some, for different reasons, are struggling to get through matches (Kone and Smyth). It could get worse before it gets better; given the history, that’s probably more likely.

Re the heston , “we’ve had an injury crisis in all but one of the seasons we’ve been there”.

So the 1 season data is key. Its not the pitch then. If it were the pitches it would be consistent with injuries every season.

Good post mate and agree with a lot of this.

Thanks for the explanation on PTs.

As I hope I’ve made clear I’m not here to defend Williams and nothing I have heard warns me towards him.

I’ve also said I would have no problem in binning him. My provisos were more practical: have we identified what specially we are doing wrong (early season talk was that we had abandoned / modified this slow fitness build up but in any event most fans agreed we generally started the season looking pretty fit). What specifically would we change (other than his generally rude/ unpleasant behaviour)? How do we scientifically assess the success of a potential successor?

To repeat there maybe a lot of things Williams is doing wrong and he should go. But as a fanbase we can sometimes look for scapegoats and I guarantee if we had Arsenal or Chelsea’s equivalent working for us I strongly suspect we would have a lot of injuries.

Some fans are suggesting we are having too many injuries because we are resting players too MUCH. That seems unlikely. Others are saying we should recruit better. Well yes we all agree, but even Lampety’s signing was welcomed by most fans.

Whatever the very different thoughts on Nourry he is, as you say, pretty ruthless and I’d be amazed / deeply unimpressed if he were not having a pretty thorough interrogation behind the scenes as to what has gone wrong. Just because he is “Nourry’s guy” sometimes you have to admit you made a bad call, as with Celar: it happens.

I am absolutely as disappointed as any fan that yet another season looks like being derailed by injuries. I’m totally sick of it. I’m certainly not going to shed any tears if Williams is sacked. I’m just not 100% convinced it will transform the situation.

The thing is, of course the Lamptey signing was welcomed by the fans. It was a signing. Of someone we had heard of. That's all the fans want isn't it, these days? To "win" the transfer window. To be cooking. #announceanyone

I'm already reading that we need to sign strikers in January. We've got Kone, Burrell, Lloyd, Virat ... why on earth should we need to sign more? Are we Nottingham Forest?

I mean, with a cool head, the Lamptey signing was a total farce. Basically saying Fiorentina are morons and we have the healing properties of Lazarus. Is there really a "shot to nothing" in football? Are we not paying him? Is he not using up a squad place? Is he not meaning that we are ending games with 10 men?

How about a new plan of making fewer signings, using the extra budget to buy players who are...you know....fit? Durable?

One other issue is the recovery of players. Madsen has not looked right since coming back from whatever mystery injury he had in Feb last season. I thought against Derby last week was the first time he's pushed his body to do the covering of ground he was so good at pre injury, the closing down and getting all over the pitch and the result is now out for a month.

Kone as well not looked right all season, doesn't trust his body at the moment and feels every twinge to his knee is something serious whilst wearing a knee brace, clearly played through a knee problem last season and not right at all. Have we managed his injury or recovery well, it doesn't look like it

At the fan forum, just before the name check of all the guys and the claim that the work of our coaching department together with the performance department was "sensational", Nourry said that we'd only recruited the way we had this summer (i.e. Lamptey, Cirkin, players with dodgy injury histories) was because of the faith and confidence we had in that department to look after them.

I wonder whether that confidence is now shaken at all, and if not what would it actually take for that to happen? We shouldn't kid ourselves that Nourry is here because he loves QPR, he knows that if he turns the Championship's perennially 15th-placed club into a contender with loads of promising sellable assets he'll be well on the radar for other bigger jobs. At the moment his whole "project" and a lot of the good work that is undoubtedly being done is being completely undermined by this one issue, and this one department.

Can't imagine the head of recruitment, or the head coach, are pleased either. Their reputations and future job prospects are being hampered by this as well.

I know the general consensus seems to be that we're terribly unlucky with Mbengue as well, but it doesn't sit right with me that he came on with a knee strapped like that and within minutes it collapsed under him with nobody around him.

Not necessarily.

If the issues were down to wear and tear and/or poor maintenance of the pitches then those problems might not happen in the first season but could increase over time.

Having walked across those pitches at Heston I'd be astonished if that was the issue here. Absolute carpet. I'm no expert but they were the best football surfaces I'd ever been on.
