| Goalkeepers at QPR 10:37 - Nov 10 with 8080 views | numptydumpty | We have had some very decent ones over many years but many many dreadful exponents of the art of keeping. Parkes, Seaman and Stejskal all have been outstanding players. Some have had great seasons such as Smithies, Dieng, Kenny, Burridge to name a few and some that went on elsewhere to top careers afterward - Chris Woods seem to remember having a short spell here. But we have a knack of producing a high number of Calamity James keepers who excel in the downright crazy moments - Tony Roberts being the king of all in this. Is it such a hard position to find with all this data available worldwide nowadays ?? [Post edited 10 Nov 10:39]

Rob Green must be proud that some in the lower loft sill shout “Greeno” every time a keeper kicks the ball straight into touch.

Yeah Simon Royce was a very solid keeper, could use him now.

Even if we had the money and were able to spend it, never again will we be in such a position. Ie lack of drawing power. But on top of all that, both our goalkeepers weren't very good. And our team, overall, was dreadful. [Post edited 11 Nov 9:32]

The old joke - what have making love in a punt, and Watney's beer got in common ? They're both f*ckin' near water. The old ones are the best '
| Goalkeepers at QPR on 10:54 - Nov 11 with 3993 views | Bluce_Ree | The odd thing about keepers is that the fans manifest their shitness. Like they'll be really solid for years and then will do something ridiculous in one match and suddenly they ain't shit. And the more the crowd gets on their back, the more they overthink things and that means they're less reflexive and natural and they then turn into assclowns. I don't think we've had great keepers since I got my first season ticket in 95/96. We've had some good ones or ones who've had good runs. But it's fun when they have a performance where no-one is going to score against them. Like Sommer vs Villa that time where he was unf**kwittable. And I maintain that no c*nt was scoring against Green in the Play Off final. I had a real sense of zen in the second half and even said to my mate, as shit as we were playing, that there was no way Derby could win because they absolutely were not going to get the ball past Green. | |

I remember when we signed Stejskal and at the time thinking 'what have we done?!' His first game up at Elland Road was a nightmare, but he slowly grew into the role and after about 3-4 months became a formidable presence. He commanded his area so well, could kick the ball miles and for such a big man was an excellent shot-stopper. Turned out to be my favourite keeper (closely followed by Simon Royce)
| Goalkeepers at QPR on 15:08 - Nov 11 with 3723 views | Northernr | I liked Simon Royce as well. Probably speaks in his favour that he doesn't get many mentions - it means he was calm, unflashy, and didn't make a whole tonne of mistakes, which is what you want from a keeper when you're shopping on our budget. | | | |

Although he only had himself to blame for being attacked by a fan at Stoke and the club getting fined

I don't get the love in with Jan Stejskall. He was number 2 to Tony Roberts for a good while which is an indictment on anyones record.

| Goalkeepers at QPR on 12:55 - Nov 13 with 3014 views | Discodroids | I recall John Burridge being superb for us as a young kid, other favourites of mine were lee Camp, Chris Day and Radek Cerny. Never saw Chris woods in the flesh so to speak. We've had our share of Those wonderful eponymous journeymen keepers as well, Fraser Digby and paul Barron spring to miind. Nicky johns was a great shout. Nick Culkin is another emerging from the dark region of my ganglia . having seen Luděk Mikloško at the Boleyn dozens of times early 90's to mid 90's , i can safely say he is probably the best keeper i have seen live. Better than Stejskal who i loved to bits. alas The version we got years later was a broken husk of the great Ludek in his prime. He was slower to get to ground than orson wells dressed in a CCCP Sokol space suit. Also in terms of dashed expectations. Matt Ingram was one that got me. Thought he would be good for us. ended up about as effective as a leather lace up condom. he was up there with Jordan Mutch and simon osborn for me in regards to crushing let downs.
