| Mbenge 22:21 - Nov 5 with 13613 views | Lblock | Oh how people laughed at his mad antics. Triple fist pumps and corner flag waving after stodgy victories brought smiles and much mirth. Yep…. He’s pacey. Very quick across the ground but quicker to multiple yellow cards. I’m done with him. He’s an absolute liability and has sawdust for brain cells with ball never knowingly under his control. The first goal this evening totally on him and yet again his overall game had me on the edge of my seat as he’s like a chain smoker in a fireworks factory. Such a shame that the best QPR defender I’ve seen in recent years was on the bench tonight. Sadly it wasn’t our bench and that’s a scandal | |

| Mbenge on 05:02 - Nov 9 with 2635 views | FDC | Having slept on it I think I'm more in favour of him at RB than not. By extension though that means evaluating Dunne returning to CB. Here I think I'd be in favour of Dunne and Morrison starting, and retaining Field at LB, which I realize may be controversial because it means dropping Cook. (And because I'm derailing an Mbengue thread). I've just lost a bit of confidence in Cook, and feel like we should be able to rely on our captain and defacto deputy captain to bring the experience to the back four. That moment in the second half were he and Dunne had a break down in communication was a bad error but it happens. But the thing that stood out to me the most was the way Cook started remonstrating with Dunne. I feel like last season he wouldn't have had any thought on his mind beyond recovering from the error, whereas this season we've seen very different body language, alongside a big dip in form, which to me shows he knows he's lost something from his game, and means he no longer brings the steely resolve that was a big part of what he contributed. Edit. That mix-up was first half not second [Post edited 9 Nov 5:15]

He did well at RB, especially with the other changes, but he’s not going to get to Xmas without another ban or a red card at some point. The back 5 is probably worthy of another thread. IIRC, there was also another mix up with Field, who also did good defensive work, with a lot of support from Chair. Hamer only found out he was playing late on, just before the game according to his interview. I hope he can play until we either get a new keeper, or Walsh returns, because Nardi can’t realistically come back in now and be expected to perform or improve and we won’t get any money for him either. A_Paaling…. As Dunne is captain, you can’t really drop him - unless he’s injured, which I also suspect he is. But he’ll be playing at RB again when MadBen is banned. Just keep moving them around like chess pieces….

I think Cook is suffering from the same problem Paal, Nardi, and Kolli suffered / are suffering from. He's only here because of a contractual technicality and as a rebuke for not leaving they stripped him of his captaincy rather rudely and rather publicly. It was justified by some QPR fans as ok because 'he won't be playing many minutes and can lead from behind'. Well, he's played 11 out of 15 games now as a few of us predicted, with one foot out the door it seems. I don't think it's reasonable for us to expect players to die for the club which has attempted to force them out. Those distractions are starting to show. [Post edited 9 Nov 9:01]

| Mbenge on 09:52 - Nov 9 with 2236 views | rbee | The time to get mad with Mbenge is if he starts receiving red cards on a regular basis. For a long time we have been asking for an aggressive player in the team and now we have one. Some of his yellows are daft like yesterday, but remember the amount of yellows that Sam Field would rack up a couple of seasons ago for shirt pulling. Steve Cook's form has dropped along with much of the squad the past few weeks, only Burrell, Smyth and RND seem to be exempt. Julien has to turn this around in an effort to finish 15th. | | | |

I think the more likely explanation is he’s physically declining quite rapidly at an age footballers often do. Feel he always looks a bit awkward playing on the left anyway. Good bloke and all that and because JCS is somehow still out (10 months now…) and the younger players aren’t considered good enough (quite liked the look of the tall boy from Aberdeen when I saw him albeit in a friendly) he’s been needed. I’m not sure he’s been as bad as his worst critics suggest but his worst performances are certainly getting worse and the real heroic ones more and more sparse. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Both can be true and neither help. Only one could have been avoided though.

Funny how we all see it: I thought Cook played well in a new defence with a central midfielder playing to his left as a left back up against Tyrese Campbell and Callum O'Hare, two players who've had us on toast before. One mix-up with Dunne, but otherwise they played well together as a CB pairing (for the first time in...ever?). We didn't concede did we! Entire back five playing together in those positions for the first time, away from home. Well done, lads. Have a beer. Football fans, fck me. Never happy unless they're ecstatic. (not you btw, just the threads I'm reading today).Game by game, that's the season: clean sheet, away from home. Draw a line, move on.

I agree, the back five were the highlight for me yesterday. Original post is harsh on Mbenge, he did a great job yesterday at full back and made some excellent runs forward when given the chance. He's suffered along with others from JS's constant chopping and changing. Dunne and Cook were both solid and made up for the mix up by both saving us and blocking goal bound efforts. Field was for the second time this season decent in the other full back slot against as you say two good forwards. I'd be more than happy for these guys to start against Hull, Hamer was excellent.

I agree that the back 5 played well, although I suspect RND will be back against Hull. I also think that Chair did a lot of defensive work and helped Field on the left. It wasn't a great performance, but it stopped the losing run and a clean sheet was a welcome bonus - a specific well done to Hamer on his debut. If he plays like that in future games neither Nardi or Walsh will get a recall any time soon.

| Mbenge on 07:59 - Nov 23 with 1189 views | Wegerles_Stairs | Played well yesterday and made a brilliant run forward in the first half. Also, after the match, when he was doing his crazy celebrations at the end, he spotted one of our young fans in the Loft who was (incongruously considering the weather) shirtless, went over, took his massive coat off, removed his own shirt, lifted the kid up like a trophy and then gave him his shirt. As mad as a box of frogs but what a GBOL. | | | |
| Mbenge on 11:43 - Nov 23 with 791 views | numptydumpty | Think he is far better at right back. Very fast, good running with the ball and able to ne another presence in defence. Think it works better with him and Dunne switching positions now going forwards. [Post edited 23 Nov 11:44]

Positioning still needs a bit of work. Did nothing to prevent the cross for their 2nd. But, Dembele gave up pressing which gave them far too much room.
